I'll be out there, but I'm camping way over on 10 O'clock. I think Dave's going out with Deathguild so I'm sure you'll see him. Maybe I'll catch you guys at Spikes on Thursday night.

Does it cost money to get into BM? How does one "go" to BM?

It's $300 or so if I recall, $150 if you qualify for a "low income" ticket. I think it used to be cheaper but the state of nevada smelled money and started making demands.

Yeah, the ticket is around $300 just to get in; and there's only one kinda of ticket: General Admission. No mater if you're staying for a day or a week.

The real cost comes in getting there, transporting all the crap you want to bring with you (which gets more and more expensive if you do a theme camp), and paying for all the supplies you'll need for a week in the desert. If you just wanted to go and not do a theme camp, you could probably get away with it for around $1k.

Oh, yeah, and kiss all your saved up vacation time goodbye. This sucks most of it away.

I'm over it after this year... The world is to big of a place to keep going to Burning Man every year. Next year, I'm off to some other country. Australia is looking likely...

Hmmmm... at the same cost, the condo on the water in Maui or the desert with a bunch of hippies and Road Warriors.

              Nevada = unsurfable.

              Decision made.

Decision made. wait, i have to pay 300 bucks to sleep on a dry lake bed in the middle of the summer? I'd rather spend $10 to camp at the dunes and not see naked men walking around on ecstasy.

                    Must EVERY thread turn gay?!

I'm over Burning Man after this year... cost aside, it's kicking my ass in terms of time commitment. We've been building this damned theme camps for nearly a solid month. I'm going to need a vacation from this vacation...

How much will you pay me to NOT take ecstasy and walk around naked at the next Dunes camp out?

Dang. That was going to be my racket. Hell I'll not do it for a lousy $50.

You know the answer to this.

I've never been to Burning Man. Is it fun? I've never been to a Rainbow Gathering either. Maybe I'm not the DFH I portray myself to be?

Sure it's fun... I'm of the opinion that's it's all about who you go with. As long as you're with the right group of people, anything can be fun. I had a blast out there last year, despite breaking my thumb and shoulder in a bicycle accident.

The scale of it is unimaginable. There's more to see and do then you could ever possibly see in the week that the event runs. There's no one set type of person out there either... sure, there's hippies. There's ravers too. And yuppies. And geeks. And bikers. And college-aged douchebags. Plenty of retirees too... even families with their kids. There's AA meetings pretty much non-stop the whole week for the sober people, and there's church services held often for the Christians. *shrug* It's pretty much whatever you want to make it.

and Road Warrior types, insane geeky techy types, survivalist desert rats who like to blow shit up types, clown porn types etc...

or at least that's who I've hung out with when I've gone.
