Can motorcycles use the bike lane?

In my experience, no. I can not cite vehicular code however I have seen a motorcycle riding in one get pulled over. On the boardwalk stretch bike lane, a chopper was riding in it, got motioned over by cops on the side of the road and I presume ticketed)

I got ticketed on highway 9 about 4 years ago.

Can I ride my motorcycle in the bike lane?

According to Section 21209 you can't drive a motor vehicle in a bike lane except 1) to park where parking is permitted, 2) to enter or leave the roadway, or 3) to prepare for a turn within a distance of 200 feet from the intersection.

Just like Marc says, you can use it as part of a turning lane when turning right before an intersection. What I was talking about last night was splitting between a car in the right lane and the curb to split traffic to make a righ hand turn, which even though there's usually plenty of space, it illegal (I got the lecture from CHP last time). Ditto goes for the bike lane too.

P.S. In general, passing on the right will usually be grounds for a citation.
