(05-17) 09:55 PDT LIVERMORE - An unidentified female motorcyclist was
killed Tuesday evening when her bike collided with a dump truck on
westbound Interstate 580 just north of the West Livermore Avenue exit,
authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol is trying to identify the woman, who was
riding what a spokesman described as a medium-sized motorcycle with
California plates when the accident occurred about 7:30 p.m.
The slow lane of the road was closed for 2 B 1/2 hours while investigators
worked at the scene, said CHP Officer Mike Herman.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling at 50- to 55 mph
when the collision occurred, he said.
The motorcyclist fell under the tires of the dump truck, he said. The
woman, who appeared to be about 45 years old, was later pronounced dead at
the scene.
The CHP is not identifying the truck driver until the investigation is
completed, Herman said.
There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the
accident, Herman said.
