  • Help me ride pt. 2

hey everyone. you might have seen my old post last november. well i signed up for the cabrillo motorcylcle safety course which starts the 22nd of september. I was hoping to maybe find someone before the 22nd of september to give me a couple riding lessons, basically so i can spend a few hours on a bike, see how i like it, and hopefully get a lot of the basics down. i'll gladly pay anyone that's willing to help because i'd need use of a bike + helmet. If you think you might be able to help me out somehow feel free to respond here, email me at rockandrollprofessional@hotmail.com, or you might find me working at pipeline. anyway, thanks guys!

Well Adam,Park for a bit at www.joe250.com,go to the site map and read,Riding Tips, not once but many times as to understand. My take on the bike and Helmet......You better have Bill Gates kinda money. Do you ride a Bicycle?,it is a start to learn control,balance,breaking.been-t-done-t?, then moped in a empty lot. I would first GET GEAR!, Bike Second. Still not sure after high side on moped, buy more gear! ;D. I think You'll find most any one from the Vampires that can help, but You need to step up and make the investment into gear and some kind of bike. The Vampires is a top notch group. . I almost forgot,GOOD choice for taking the class!,and don't bring Your Cel Phone! ;D

Thanks a lot for referring me to that site, i can tell i'll be readinmg that one for a long time. Yeah, I was gonna buy a helmet before the class, but my bike i wanted to wait until i had practice enough on one to feel comfortable. I do have a bike that i ride every day, if that helps. The bike i have fallen in love with is a harley sportster 1200 XL Custom. You could try changing my mind about it but it's highly unlikely. anyway, thanks for the advice!

I won't try to change Your mind ,everyone has a dream bike and the transition from a bicycle to the Harley is only 600 lbs.,cake walk ;D. Well now You have 80% of the skills,20% to go. when You ride the bicycle practice the controls;clutch, throttle, shift, ect.,you know pretend. Now go and buy gear.

          Advice for new riders-
Start with a crappy bike, and full protective gear. Boots, a thick jacket, either leather or gortex pants, and a full helmet. If you can start on a dirt bike, that's even better. An example - I spent $500 on my first 600, but spent $300 on leathers, $150 on boots, $200 on helmet (full face, it was on sale), and $70 on a back protector. I still have the equipment, and use the boots daily even though they're going on 8 yrs now. The bike though was history years ago.

Ping Craigs list and here for protective gear, you can get things fairly cheap. For a bike, find something light and cheap like an old 450.

If you want a dirt bike lesson, we ride almost every weekend on a private trail. Send me a message. We'll be riding tomorrow (July 4th) around 10-2.
          T.

Thanks twostroke and timmeh. I'm definitely going to try to shop around and buy some equipment soon, i don't know if you guys have any recommendations on shops around here (I checked craigslist but didn't really find anything that cool). Timmeh, I'd be interested in giving a dirtbike a run. Probably wouldn't be for a week or two, but feel free to tell me where you guys practice and stuff. thanks again
