If you truly don't care about playing any other games, then I might go with the PS3, as it plays bluray discs out of the box, while the 360 went with a separate drive to play HD DVDs, now going the way of the beta max. PS3 will also integrate a little better into the rest of your home theater equipment in it's black finish, hiding nicely with your other DVD player, receiver, etc. The 360 looks like a child's toy in white/lime green.
However, the 360 is cheaper, and I think it's got the PS3 beat on games selection hands down (even if you don't count Halo), if only because it's been on the market longer.
Short answer: fuck it. buy both.

X Box 360 or PS3?
So it appears that the new GTA IV will be released only for these two consoles. I bought my PS2 solely to play GTA San Andreas and thought the game was worth the price of the console. I only ever tried a few other PS3 titles and aside from Burn Out Revenge they all sucked.
I'm considering buying a new console just for the new GTA title but not sure which one to get. they both come with various model choices with different options that I really don't understand all that well.

It seems I see Xbox as the console of choice among you but why? Cheaper cost? better features and games? What other games are worthwhile for these machines that would make one console a better purchase than the others?
My preferred genre is FPS games but I prefer a PC platform as a keyboard and mouse are easier for me to use than a controller. I bought Hitman Contracts for PS2 and the controls were so horrible I never finished the training level. The game is still in the corner after I threw it at the wall.
I probably won't ever use the multi player online functions or use it for other media. I don't have Hi def. anything and don't really care. I don't watch much TV or too many movies anyways but if one had any up and coming technology that will/may be prevelant soon (such as Blu Ray) I'd like to hear opinions.
Let me know what you all think.
Oh yeah, if any of you is selling one of these consoles to upgrade to a better system let me know.
