  • Goddamnit. Bill to outlaw 'bullet buttons' in CA

    http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-...utton-loophole

State Senator Leland Yee is saying that the bullet button violates the 'spirit' of the 'no detachable magazines' law in CA.

    May 21
A Bay Area lawmaker introduced a bill today to close a loophole in the state's assault weapons law allowing "bullet button" semi-automatic rifles that reload in an instant.
State Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, gutted and amended SB 249 to carry the legislation, and expects it will be considered by the Legislature next month.
"There is absolutely no reason why these military-style weapons need to have such easily changeable magazines," Yee said in a news release. "While most gun owners are law-abiding, I am deeply concerned with these assault weapons getting into the wrong hands, resulting in mass casualties of civilians or law enforcement officers."
Magazines that can be removed by a normal push-button, in combination with features such as a pistol grip and telescoping stock, are banned by California law; the law essentially requires that magazines be fixed, or removed or replaced with the use of a tool, in order to slow down the reloading process.
In an apparent effort to get around the law, gun makers have created a new mechanism that lets the magazine be easily removed by the tip of a bullet or in some cases by just putting a small magnet over the "bullet button," basically recreating a normal push-button
and letting magazines be changed within seconds.

"These conversions are circumventing the spirit of California's assault weapon statute," said Yee. "Absent this bill, California's assault weapon ban is practically toothless. For the safety of the general public, we must close this loophole."
The "bullet button" controversy was brought to the fore in a recent report by CBS5.

These morons do not understand that putting a pistol grip, adjustable stock and muzzle brake on a rifle makes the rifle easier to control and thereby safer to shoot. Nor is any weapon incapable of selective fire really an "assault weapon".

My Mini 14 fires the same caliber and quantity of ammo semi-automatically and it is faster to change out the magazines than a bullet button equipped AR but that not illegal because it doesn't *look* scary.

Bill introduced, but not yet voted on. Are we putting the cart before the horse? Wait a second... We're talking about California here!

Apparently Yee has modified the bill somewhat.... under the revised bill, it appears that bullet buttons will still be allowed, but I guess there's some sort of conversion kit available which allows the use of a small magnet and makes the mag release function much like a 49-state setup. :dunno:

So with the revised bill, bullet-buttons will still be allowed, but "magnet kits" won't be. No idea what this magnet kit is, but at least bullet-button detachable mags will still be allowed in CA.

Yee’s bill originally sought to ban the bullet button. But he recently amended the bill to ban only conversion kits such as the “mag magnet,” a hot seller at gun shows, that makes a bullet button even easier to use.

CBS 5 asked Yee: “The bill doesn’t address the bullet part, just the magnet. Why the change?”

The senator answered: “Given all the opposition we have had thus far, I think that this probably would be a way that we can craft a bill that would pass muster.”

God that's sad..... He doesn't care about the effectiveness of the legislation, just creating legislation which will pass.

Amend the constitution or commit treason by armed rebellion. Of course if the rebellion is successful it won't be called treason, which was the hope of the traitorous losers in the Confederacy.

kinda hard for them to take part in an armed rebellion if they aren't armed

hippy rebellions are the easiest to defeat when it comes to actual conflict. Passive aggressive doesn't work in a fist fight

But until the Fed smacks CA in the mouth and says: you can't do that to your people, there will be no justice
