  • Back up power

Back up power, at the Rally many vamps sucked the life out of Ziad's back up power pack and they all thank him for that so they play with their phones?. Here is one that I think all may want to have with them. The link is for the main page so drill down and see what will fit your needs, cool stuff.

Those batteries you link to are actually not good for charging cellphones. Their smallest battery is 6 amp-hour, which seems good. However this is "PB Equivalent" Meaning that they produce the same amount of cranking amps as a 6AH battery. However, that's not the -actual- capacity of that battery. The actual capacity is probably 1.5. A larger motorcycle Lithium ion battery (8 call, 9AH PB EQ) will probably get you 3AH. At the cost of about $200.

This is why I didn't use the cellphone charger that I have wired onto the R1, which has a Lithium Ion battery. I know not to use it unless the bike is running or it will quickly drain the battery.

You can get a USB battery backup for $50-$100 with a significantly higher capacity than one of those lithium ion motorcycle batteries. Also much smaller. And it has a USB cable built in to the thing.

That said, I use my phone to check the route, coordinate with Lon wrt our ETA, and a variety of other things related to the rally. I don't spend a lot of time dicking around with it in public. Particularly if i'm out and about with friends.

Whoa. That thing is rad! I dig the 12v outlet. Good for powering other random motorcycle accessories. I wish this thing existed when I was shopping for batteries for my CPAP machine.

I might order one anyway if the reviews are good.

Ah, it's not a 12v outlet. It's a flashlight. Still it could be wired to a 12v outlet i'd think.

Yep, that may have been me a bit… Having some issues at Home and no service was a little frustrating, but I get it.

I will check out backup battery, but that doesn't help the fact that "society" is now always Plugged In, with no real time to disconnect - except for my week in Palau on the live aboard. That was weird. Like an itch you can't scratch. Or maybe that was the crabs.
